UPDATE: As Seen in Boise, Idaho, this Morning…aaaaannnnd it was Taken Down

Update, here.

A controversial message on an electronic billboard has been removed along the Connector in downtown Boise.

The billboard said, “Black and Brown folks built this country — and we’re doing it again — join us or get out of the way!”

It featured a picture of the state capitol and a police car on fire.

The company responsible for displaying the advertisement, Lamar Advertising, said on Facebook that it was a mistake to display and that it was not properly vetted due to employee oversight.

A protest was planned outside Lamar’s offices in response to the billboard.

Community organizer Tanisha Newton told CBS2 that they created the ad with a team of other people.

The ad didn’t sit well with others because of what it showed.

Dawn Retzlaff told CBS2 that she has had a billboard denied in the past because it was too political (she wouldn’t say if Lamar Advertising had anything to do with it), but she was upset at the most recent one that was displayed.

“‘Join us or get out of the way,’ which is also on the billboard has a definite negative connotation to it,” Retzlaff said.

Lamar said on the social media post that it removed the advertisement as soon as employees became aware.

The company went on to say it does not endorse the content and apologized for the error.

CBS2 reached out to Lamar Advertising by phone and email and has yet to hear back. CBS2 also reached out to Boise Police, but a spokesperson said the department had no involvement in the billboard and declined an opportunity to comment.

Idaho is a really stupid place to put up a sign like that, even in communist run Boise.
