Take this into consideration when purchasing your pistol or revolver. Make no mistake, I absolutely love the .45 caliber 230 grain projectile and most of the platforms it is used in, most especially the 1911. Been carrying and shooting it for a couple decades now. However, when contemplating what to carry for self-defense or SHTF, one can’t always justify the larger calibers over the 9mm when the following is taken into account:
Some excerpts from the report – emphasis added…
“While some law enforcement agencies have transitioned to larger calibers from the 9mm Luger in recent years, they do so at the expense of reduced magazine capacity, more felt recoil, and given adequate projectile selection, no discernible increase in terminal performance.”
“The single most important factor in effectively wounding a human target is to have penetration to a scientifically valid depth (FBI uses 12” – 18”)”
“9mm Luger now offers select projectiles which are, under identical testing conditions, outperforming most of the premium line .40 S&W and .45 Auto projectiles tested by the FBI”
“The majority of FBI shooters are both FASTER in shot strings fired and more ACCURATE with shooting a 9mm Luger vs shooting a .40 S&W (similar sized weapons)”
